Hat woes and Hat formulas

I've been having trouble making hats recently. Sometimes, I think the size is not correct, and I end up frogging most of my work. I'd try to make a larger size by modifying the patterns, but they didn't work well.

Gladly, I found this great resource from beginner-crochet-patterns.com

If I know the circumference size, I can figure out the approximate length and width it needs to be. If I don't know the circumference, I can guesstimate with these approximate measurements:

Preemie baby: 11" -12" or 28 cm - 30.5 cm

Newborn baby: 13 " or 33 cm
Baby 2 weeks - 3 months: 14 " or 35.5 cm
Baby 3-6 months: 15" or 38 cm
Baby 6-9 months: 16" or 40.5 cm
Baby 9-12 months: 16 1/2 " or 42 cm
Baby 12-18 months: 17 " or 43.5 cm
Baby 18-24 months: 18 " or 46 cm
Toddler 2 years - 5 years: 18" - 19 " or 46 cm - 48.5 cm
Child: 19"- 20" or 48.5cm - 51 cm
Teenager: 20-21" or 51 cm - 53.5 cm
Adult woman: 22" or 56 cm
Adult man: 23" or 59 cm

Use the formula circumference (in) / 3.14 to find the width of the crown. The length of the hat is determined by the formula (circumference/10) x 4

Learning this tip has made me feel more confident about my hat making technique. I can also double check the finished size when I am following a pattern. For step-by step directions and 4 extra hat patterns you can make, check out the blog beginner-crochet-patterns.com

Thing 1 Thing 2 hats are almost done, and then to redo a cap and football beanie!

This is an awesome free pattern for a large Amigurumi Moogle from Final Fantasy. This week she shared the Moogle Assembly, and the pattern to create the pieces was posted the week before. Thanks for sharing, Kristina from 2 Crochet Hooks!

Congratulations to the featured blogs!

What have I been doing?

My friend received the hat I sent her. I'm so happy that she liked it.

I finished the wool hat I made for my brother. I'll probably write a post about it by the end of the week.

Thing 1 Thing 2 hats are almost done. Just need to work on the white circles and the lettering.

Love this Doctor Who inspired drink sleeve I tested for Creative Threads by Leah. She has a whole set of Doctor Who themed drink sleeves selling in her Craftsy and Ravelry stores!

VBS Splash Camp

I've been so busy this past week! I didn't have time to put some posts together like I wanted to, but I do want to write about the vacation Bible school I was a part of last week. It was only for 3 days in the mornings. At first I wished VBS lasted all week, but in the end I was glad it didn't! I still had to work in the afternoons, but I was grateful to be there.

I was especially grateful because I was in charge of the kid's worship. It's always fun to sing and dance with them! I'm on the stage giving instructions.

Then we split the kids up into 3 age groups, and they were off on rotations to do crafts...

listen and participate in Bible time...

And enjoy some snacks before...

enjoying some water fun with this large slip and slide the some of the men built!
Looks like a great pinterest project! Too bad I didn't get a picture of the large inflateable water slide on the last day! It was fun for even the youth leaders.

Now it's time for 2 weeks recovery and catching up on my crochet projects! I am still sore from all that running around!

Mimi, Mommy and Me shared the easiest way to remove labels off of glass jars. I've been collecting jars, hoping I can put things inside. The labels are the hardest to take off, but not anymore! Thanks Lil!

I have been at Vacation Bible School the past few days, and I'm exhausted! But I love the kids, and seeing them enjoy their time makes me smile.
