My first craft show! TBEC Rock and Roll Holiday Market

I've been a part of my local city Etsy group, and I've been watching all of the craft shows people have been posting about. I have been waiting for a year to try a show, and I'm glad I had the chance to be a part of the Tampa Bay Etsy Crew's holiday market. 

My boyfriend also joined, sharing his t-shirt designs from Lines and Dashes. It was his first show too, and he was excited to sell his hand printed shirts. I was so happy we got to share a tent together. I don't think I had enough items to fill a full table, but I brought enough to fill half!

I brought a variety of items I had on hand, mostly hats that I made as a tester, a few headbands that I made while we sat at our booth, cowls, koozies, and some small purses I made especially for the market. I was also testing to see what would be the best items to make more of.

People passed by and looked at the items. Everyone admired the Minnie ears hat and the stormtrooper sack hat, a perfect eye catcher with the Star Wars movie coming out soon. I did get a couple of sales for headbands and storm trooper koozies. Overall, it was a great event with a great group of people that were very helpful. 

If you have an Etsy page, make sure to look for your local Etsy group and join in their craft shows. They have been a great help in learning about selling online and in person.

What have I been doing?

This Saturday I'm doing my first craft show! I'm so excited! I've been working on all the things I want to sell. Most of them are the hats I've tested over the years, plus a few purses. I have pictures too!

My Birthday weekend 2015

I love when my birthday is close to the weekend. We have more time to do fun things!

My birthday was on the 25th, so my boyfriend and I drove around to find some interesting things.

First stop with Schiller's Salvage. Lorenzo has been looking for ideas to add to his home, and I have never been to a place like this. It is so amazing! So many odds and ends to find and things that make you feel you are the D.I.Y Queen! Anyone need carousel lights?

This barn door was already sold, but it was so cool! Lorenzo has been looking for the material to add a few barn doors to his home. It was also a HUGE barn door.

I took a picture of these boards as a idea for the front of the house. He wants to add some wood panels or walls to cover the old garage door. These boards look like what he wanted. I just found out that these are wood flooring grates.

Schiller's also had items from the Bellview Biltmore Hotel: doors, hinges, key plates, door handles, sinks, faucets, and these light fixtures. So many light fixtures.

After our trip to Schiller's, we drove to Brandon to visit Old Time Pottery and go to a restaurant. We decided to go to Bahama Breeze at the mall. This is Lorenzo, happy with his delicious Jamaican Stuffed Plantain. He definitely picked the best meal. Caramelized sweet plantain stuffed with yellow rice, ground beef , black bean sauce and cheese. Mmm!

On Sunday I played worship at church in the boonies of Florida. After the service, we decided to drive around. We ended up in Dade City with the green pastures and the Florida hills.

We eventually stopped in San Antonio to try the Local Public House and Provisions. It was an amazing place with great food. We didn't get a chance to stay for the live music, but we will stop by again.

Everything is better local!

There's a new trend going on that I've been following. I've lived in the same area for 25 years now, but I never explored it.Why go to the same old routine of life when there are exciting local things that may be happening around you?

I first started this journey with food (yum!). How about checking out local farmer's markets instead of our regular supermarket? Make sure you have time to research the things offered in different markets. They may have a website where you can see what local products are available in season. If local restaurants can do it, why can't we? You can also buy things in bulk, if you go through a specific fruit or vegetable really quickly. Plus, it's fun to bring your kids with you so they can choose what they'd like to try.

Speaking of restaurants, what local restaurants are around you? Have you visited them? It fun to experience local treasures in the restaurant industry. The best local restaurants are usually family and/or pet friendly, and they offer vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options.

 

Forget the music on the radio. Try finding local music in your area. You may not realize how much variety there is just in your area. You can most definitely find live local music at your local restaurant.

Where can you find this information about all the local places in your area? Now with more access to the internet, you can google websites catered to your area. I usually look at Creative Loafing for local information. Livingsocial and Groupon also shares local events and businesses in your area to try, and they give discounts too!
