Book Review - Treasure: You Are His and He is Yours by Ruth Hobbs

I want to write a little book review about my friend Ruthy's book, Treasure: You Are His and He is Yours. I may be a little biased, because she is a great friend to me. When it comes to understanding the Bible, she's got a way with explaining things so clearly. She loves to study the Bible, and the way she writes is not only comical but logical. She wrote a 30 day devotional on the Song of Solomon and how the story reflects how much love God has for us. 

 I had the chance to read one of the first copies of her book, but I didn't give her a proper review. Now I can make the time to read her devotional and give a good review.

Book Review - Sunshine After The Storm: A Survival Guide for the Grieving Mother

I joined in to review the book Sunshine After The Storm: A Survival Guide for the Grieving Mother. This is a wonderful collection of stories to help a grieving mother (or father) after the loss of a child. This book is not only for parents, but for the family and friends who stand alongside.

I have not experienced the loss of a child firsthand, but I recall my mother having two miscarriages. Many of my friends have been going through pregnancy and birth the past couple of years, and I've been learning more and more about the joys and the struggles of carrying and conceiving a child. Just the thought of carrying a baby inside and going through the delivery amazes me. 

The Chapters are filled with survival tips, quotes and personal stories of loss. Here are some things that I learned:

• Sometimes the phrase "I'm sorry for your loss" is not enough. Sometimes it's the only thing you can say. Instead of trying to console with words, be the listener.
• Grieving takes a long time. You will always remember.
• No matter if the child was born and died, stillborn, or miscarried, a child is a child. A part of yourself dies when a child that grew inside of you passes away.
• Numbness is good, but only for a time. There needs to be a time to cry and vent about your feelings, or they will explode out of you all at once.

The tips in this book are great for anyone that has loved a lost one, but are especially needed for the mothers. Sunshine After the Storm was a great learning experience for me.

Book Review: Your Daily Bible Verse

Your Daily Bible Verse, written by Rachelle Ayala, is a great way to study the Bible.

Each day corresponds to a scripture verse. For example, on today's date (August 14), the verse in Romans 8:14 is posted: "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." Only the chapter and verse number is in order, giving you a variety of verses in the Bible to read and memorize.

Some verses are straightforward and easy to relate to, and some verses allow some thought behind their meaning, referring you back to the Bible to get a better understanding of the story behind the scripture. I love learning the back stories, and this book is a great way to dig deeper as well.

I received this in PDF format, which made it easy for me to print out and place a few copies around the house. You could even modify the pages and create a weekly calendar to place on a desk. There's even a section at the end of the book that explains how easy it is to memorize any verse.

This is a great gift to purchase for a friend, family member or a new believer. It is suitable for all ages. The pages are easy to read, and the verses are simple enough to memorize and keep with you. This book would also be good for bible studies, as they could study the specific verse of the day in depth.
