What Are You Doing? Wednesday Blop Hop #17

Welcome to this week's edition of What Are You Doing? Blog Hop!

Today's featured posts come from Rochelle Barlow and Peace by Piece.

Rochelle Barlow

Rochelle posted a wonderful piece talking about ASL Interpreting, the many different types of entertainment the hearing-impaired enjoy, and how some are part of the Arts. I know a few friends that know ASL, and I have a blind friend that I had to describe to her what was going on in videos and movies. I am just amazed at everything my friend can do, and this article is another good way to show that there is nothing an impaired person can't do! This is a wonderful article and shows that the Deaf can enjoy the arts and also be a part of it!

Peace by Piece

Debi from Peace by Piece stepped away from her comforts of home to fill in as receptionist for the day. She wrote a wonderful thought provoking piece about the connections in her life. She reminded me that we can all make a difference with every connection we face, from strangers on the phone to close family and friends. Thank you for this wonderful read.

Congratulations to the featured blogs!

What have I been doing?

This week I've been getting ready for my trip to California. Since July 25th, I have been collecting my resume and letters, filled out an application, had an interview in Orlando, and now I am flying to Cali for the week to do a "test run". I wrote a little about this adventure in my music blog. I can't wait to write a full report about my experience.

Now it's your turn! What have you been doing this week?

How-to Make T-Shirt Covered Notebooks

I have SO MANY t-shirts collected over the years from thrift stores and events I went to. I got tired of the mound of shirts in my room, besides I was never going to wear most of them (unless I made something out of them). I made this neat T-Shirt Covered Notebook over the weekend.

This idea is perfect for a tween or teen that has too many shirts! Sometimes we have shirts that have sentimental value to us (like my high school senior shirt). Why not recreate it into something usable (like I plan to make the high school shirt into a pillow,  but that's for another entry).

Also check out this tutorial on I Love to Create's Blog.

I found this old composition book in my book shelf collection. I think I used it in middle school. I love the look of composition notebooks, but this one needed new life.

I cut the front design from an extra large shirt in the shape of the notebook...

Then I spread some Elmer's glue on both sides and wrapped the shirt around the notebook.

I reused a plastic card to spread the glue evenly.

Bye bye old cover. It was so cool back then to color in the white spaces!

As you can see here, the glue started to bleed through the shirt. But I assume it will dry clear.

I was thinking to glue the edgings to inside of the notebook, but I was having trouble cutting the shirt straight. So I just trimmed the edges with fabric scissors.

Cool shirt design, right? Props to friends at Symphonic Distribution and Lorenzo Cantera Designs.

I let the notebook chill in my bookshelf to dry flat for a few days.

Book Review: Your Daily Bible Verse

http://www.rachelleayala.com
Your Daily Bible Verse, written by Rachelle Ayala, is a great way to study the Bible.

Each day corresponds to a scripture verse. For example, on today's date (August 14), the verse in Romans 8:14 is posted: "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." Only the chapter and verse number is in order, giving you a variety of verses in the Bible to read and memorize.

Some verses are straightforward and easy to relate to, and some verses allow some thought behind their meaning, referring you back to the Bible to get a better understanding of the story behind the scripture. I love learning the back stories, and this book is a great way to dig deeper as well.

I received this in PDF format, which made it easy for me to print out and place a few copies around the house. You could even modify the pages and create a weekly calendar to place on a desk. There's even a section at the end of the book that explains how easy it is to memorize any verse.

This is a great gift to purchase for a friend, family member or a new believer. It is suitable for all ages. The pages are easy to read, and the verses are simple enough to memorize and keep with you. This book would also be good for bible studies, as they could study the specific verse of the day in depth.

You can check out more books from Rachelle at http://www.rachelleayala.com. She also sells her books on Amazon for Kindle, Barnes and Noble for Nook, and Smashwords.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

What have I been doing?

I'm still waiting for a response from my interview last week. *sigh*

In the meantime, I am still working on this large market bag from a few weeks ago, and I have planted beets, lettuce and tomatoes. The beets are sprouting, but there's no lettuce yet.

Now it's your turn! What have you been doing this week?
